Carnarvon to Mt. Augustus
Day 11 – July 30, 2014
– Carnarvon to Mt. Augustus - distance travelled: 481 kms - 28oC high; 18oC
low. On the pavement to Gascoyne
Junction where Don & Gwen swam in the creek upstream from the cows 22 years
ago to wash off the dust and then went to the pub where they happened to have a
BBQ gathering that day with people from stations all around. It turned out that Gascoyne Junction was
flooded a couple of years ago to the extent that the pub and other buildings there had to be rebuilt. Everything is very
new; not quite the same charm. After that the paved road ended and we made it
to Mt. Augustus “Resort” over – mostly good - gravel roads just before dark.
